Pictured below is one of the many heros from that tragic day of July 29, 1967. ABHC Gerald W. Farrier reacted and acted upon his dedication to the vessel and his shipmates. Armed with only a portable fire extinguisher, he fought the fires to the best of his ability. Gerald and 133 others gave their lives in a supreme act of heroism that day. In honor of Farrier’s efforts and others aboard Forrestal that day, the Farrier Fire Fighting School was named in his honor and serves to this day as one of the top facilities in training service members in critical fire fighting areas.
